The Real Reasons Leprechauns Love Tacos

March 16, 2016 by Jonathan Rienstra

Leprechauns

This March 17 offers another day of shamrocks, corned beef and cabbage and, of course, green beer. But it’s also a time of celebration for our little green friends. No, not our bowls of guacamole (but thanks for thinking of them). We’re actually talking about those little green fairies from Irish folklore: the leprechauns.

Now we know all the stereotypes about these St. Paddy’s Day mascots: They wear green. They do Irish jigs. They’re always after their pot of gold. They’re infatuated with rainbows (see: “pot of gold”). But, come on. Leprechauns are people, too. (At least kind of.) There has to be more to them than all these tired clichés, right?

Right. At Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, we’re convinced leprechauns would — and do — love tacos. If it isn’t obvious why, let’s break it down for you.

Mexican food is tastier than Irish food.

Not to totally knock Irish food on an Irish national holiday, but let’s cut to the chase: Would you rather have corned beef and cabbage or our jumbo burrito? Don’t lie. Leprechauns have been eating traditional Irish food for centuries. You know they enjoy mixing it up every now and then, and tacos have to be at the top of their list.

Margaritas vs. Guinness?

Cold, salt-rimmed tequila concoction or room temperature dark lager? Leprechauns need to be light on their feet. They can’t be weighed down by a stout beer. Something tells us margaritas have something to do with those Irish jigs.

Tacos resemble rainbows.

You know when leprechauns pick up a taco they can’t help but think of the similarities between this arch-shaped pocket of goodness and those rainbows they’ve spent their lives chasing. And what’s at the end of said taco is even better…

Pots of queso gold.

Instead of a fictional pot of gold waiting at the end of that rainbow, try a big bowl of yummy, melty queso. No need chasing rainbows when a bowl of golden queso can easily be found at any Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.

Tacos are lucky charms.

Tacos make the world go ’round, so why can’t it be the same for leprechauns? It’s the 21st century, and we’d imagine leprechauns are evolving just like the rest of us. That being said, they should really find a more stable source of income than an elusive pot of gold. Still, we venture they find comfort in tacos, the lucky charm of Mexican food.

So if you see a leprechaun enjoying some tacos this St. Patrick’s Day, don’t panic. Just smile, and keep a tight grip on your queso.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
